Revitalizing Downtown Lot 83 into a Youth-Friendly Downtown Sport Hub
Kickstart Commons (Downtown Lot 83 Revitalization) is a transformative project that will convert Lot 83, an underutilized parking lot in Calgary’s Downtown West, into a vibrant and inclusive sport and recreation hub designed for a growing downtown population.
Centered around a flexible mini soccer pitch that invites casual play, skill-building, and informal community-led programming, the space responds to the needs of a young, diverse neighbourhood with many newcomers and limited access to affordable recreation.
As new residential developments and office-to-residential conversions bring more people into the area, Kickstart Commons will create more opportunities for physical activity, social connection, and everyday outdoor life, especially as excitement for soccer grows leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Park Location
Call for Artist: Kickstart Commons Mural Project
Parks Foundation is inviting Alberta-based muralists to design and install a large-scale exterior mural on the neighbouring parkade wall, creating a vibrant visual connection between the artwork and this inclusive new public park. The selected artist or artist team will develop an original concept that responds to the park’s playful design, graphic style, and community spirit, and complete the mural between Fall 2026 and Spring 2027, weather and construction timelines permitting.
